Workshop sculpting with soapstone

In a six-hour workshop you turn soapstone (a soft type of stone) into a beautiful sculpture or piece of jewelry.

With a cup of coffee or tea with some goodies you get instructions about the use of the tool and the way you shape your stone. Afterwards you can get started with a self-chosen stone. We work with Chinese and Brazilian soapstone. You then go through all stages from rough stone to image. First the form; what do you see in the stone or what do you want to make. If the shape is to your liking, you will sand and polish. During this final phase, the polishing, unexpected colors emerge from the stone. As a final action, rub some oil on your sculpture or jewelry so that the colors and patterns in the stone remain visible. Always a fantastic moment!
We work outside in the yard of the farm of Sans Parure and a delicious French lunch is served in the garden with products from our own vegetable garden or local suppliers. We naturally also take dietary requirements into account. It is a real day of pampering! Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided. All materials and tools that are needed to make an image are also provided. So you don't have to bring anything yourself, except for a healthy dose of enthusiasm.

This inspiring workshop is given by Maria Dijkmeijer. Maria likes to work with the soapstone material as a hobby. Relaxed by being busy with design based on your own idea or example. Maria knows how to encourage students to dare to sculpt. Very often she has heard: "I can't hear that!", And then they go home with a beautiful image. Sculpting is an adventure, where there is still much to discover!
